about

Jayl and Landa's stunning musical and visual celebration of the Grand October Feast and another spooky ghost story; this is the 2nd song collaboration between Jayl and the Dutch Singer-Songwriter. The guitar is by Gloucester Legend - Andy Wood. The song was recorded in 4 hours when Jayl visited Landa @ her Crooswijk Studio in Rotterdam, actually on October 31st (Halloween) itself. They wrote and recorded this song very spontaneously using Jayl's revolutionary Gamezzz methodology and thus created a completely unique and ethereal piece of work. All the vocals were recorded in one take so you are hearing it as it was 'on the fly'.
Jayl was actually endeavouring to export the Halloween festival to the Netherlands, after his Dutch friends informed him that Halloween was not really celebrated in their country and that they thought it was 'a modern American gimmick just for fun!' So after Jayl had delivered a brief history of All Hallow's Eve and it's role in British culture stretching back into antiquity, the song was written. After this, Jayl, Landa and their friends visited the lake at Kralinge Bos, near the studio. Jayl organized the building of a huge fire, Jack-O-Lanterns were lit and the girls wore horns and tails! He then proceeded to 'spook' his audience with scary tales from the vast grimoire of English ghost stories and supernatural tradition. Hopefully, the folks in the Land of Orange were inspired enough to celebrate Halloween every year, so by now their should be thousands in Holland! It is hoped that when they do, they remember one crazy English singer who came to them in mask and cloak singing of "Baby Blue eyes 'neath storming skies haunting me!" Jayl's beloved black studio cat, who loved Halloween can be heard purr-growling on the track.

lyrics

HALLOWEEN

In mysterious ways the siren wanders
With bravura she hits the shadows
Use your power and wisdom
Feel the difference between you and I
Elastic is how this feels, living in between
The monster knocks on your bedroom door
Like a timpani drum you can’t ignore
Good faeries, bad faeries, roar of rocks
The Ghost of Delft, the Queen of Stealth
Furore on the stones.
Spooky Hookey Mojo Flojo
Dance to the trance with the gruesome twosome
Baby blue eyes ‘neath storming skies haunting me
Hallowed turf, sacred earth, crispy crunchy mind
Listen for the crack of sticks, be careful what’s behind
Rebuke the demon, angry hours, cage the wild beast
Halloween, things unseen, the grand Oktober feast
Teeming with life, solution for growth and bloom
Past lives calling us, was I born too soon?
I’m gratified to feel this blessing, honoured to touch your soul
‘Cos this life has brought us closer, do you hear the bell toll?
The howl of heaven, naked wing, oh to hear you sing!
Exhilaration, wicked kind, the unseen death will cross your mind
The past is pain, the future’s rain
Life in a series of compact gamezzz.
Silent as a spectre, you materialize the most
Rebirth a consideration, like the lustrous ways lives will take us.
