Hounded 04:03
HOUNDED At first I thought we had control, the day was crisp the night had soul...the moon was new, we caught his grin 'cos something awesome was about t begin. Little lady have we met before in another crazy life on a faraway shore...you were rosewood, you would shine like a star...when I was the minstrel and you were my guitar. And they didn't really know me well and some said maybe i's the boyfriend from hell...they didn't know me, no they didn't know me and I’m hounded about you...for you.. 'cos I want you...I want you...I want you! Little lady if the sun grows mean, if the wind gets out of breathing, if the moon's never seen … I’ll still be granite, I’ll still be a rock … shattered by frost, unaware of the clock. Little lady let me sing you my song and if the night turns savage and the shadows are long...I’ll be a tribesman, an alien ray... in love with the girl with the eyes of grey. And they didn't really know me well and some said maybe i’s the boyfriend from hell…they didn’t know me, no they didn’t know me and I'm hounded....about you...for you, 'cos I want you...I want you...I want you! Now as time goes by we see the dragons in the sky and the stories that die...so young. And I want you so much that it burns like a tongue, ‘cos we’re absolute beginners...so restless, so young. One sure thing...you're gonna' dance and I’m gonna' sing! Lyrics by Jayl De Lara © All Rights Reserved

THE WORLD AND THE HOODED MAN Cast off the veil my pretty one, do you still look at the moon? Smile and know I'm looking too, and know I'm coming soon. I flew to you from another realm, the watcher of your dreams, the guardian at your window...the voice you'd never seen. The hero of your story books, the man to make you glow; the fire for your airy soul... from ashes you could grow. You the girl from the world with the man in the hood, he bore his cup of joy, savage but soft, `twas a Gemini blue ...for you the perfect toy. Mysterious enchantment, sensuality from the wood, walking with the devil...certain that we should. The awesome force of earth bound lust, we rode the page of knives, leaving a trail not following a path for the best times of our lives. Exploring our forbidden love, hearts enough to share, a potion from the two of cups...enticing us to dare. The taste of blood, the lovers...we were winning with a style, we'd shared our secrets, diced with death...we were tortured for a while. I warned you of the karma of the film of filth and rot; but the fool he lingered, took us in and threatened all we've got. But I kept the demon quiet; I sang him to a sleep...so that you could steal the crystal and know I was yours to keep. So cast off the veil my pretty one, do you still look at the moon? Smile and know I'm looking too and know I'm coming soon. And open your mind, my, pretty one, believe the gifts I bring...anyone can be a phoney, but how many of 'em sing? I know we've often fallen foul of the tower in the gloom, torrents of rain on streets of grey... the days that end too soon. But its summer, rich, a time to live...drive away you petty fool; the sun is here for lovers and friends to appreciate the cool. So when you think that love is fading and the crocodile's quelled the spark...just give me a kiss and say “hello"… illuminate the dark. Princess of the gift of light you could change my world for me...dance your dance and God you dance... dance your dance for me! Return to our secret places; carve our names upon the tree, you looking like an angel… you looking like one at me. Now my heart it pounds like a big bass drum, I’ll always feel the same… and if we meet again in heaven …we’ll fall in love again. Lyrics by Jayl De Lara © All Rights Reserved

VICIOUS CIRCLE Crouched against the panelling, puffing very hard...another trick to catch us unawares. Well you can act very strangely with your back against the wall, but have you ever seen the shadow move when the axe begins to fall? Tightly knitted groups of people passing down the line, queuing for a taste of freedom, deceptively sublime. CHORUS: Another futile conversation… vicious circle, the same old fruitless observations... vicious circle, again a silly consultation...vicious circle... but you've gotta' be free to break out but you've gotta' break out to be free… hell, it's beyond me! Shocked absorber, take us in, bounce us on the ground...another chance to feel the thrill of pain. Well we can make merry music if we cling on to the strings, but have you ever seen the dancer when the mute begins to sing? Monopoly boards of crumbling houses, landlords jangling keys...coaxing desperate situations, fattening on fees. CHORUS: Another futile conversation… vicious circle, the same old fruitless observations... vicious circle, again a silly consultation...vicious circle... but you've gotta' be free to break out but you've gotta' break out to be free… hell, it's beyond me! Protect ya' girl, escaping the buck; alibis...clicking cluck. Frenetic days, peculiar ways, legacies of a negative phase. Oh it pulls like the ocean tides, sucks you in when the trance subsides, leads you by the hand to the hawks that hide, under the coats of the friends who lied...the friends who lied! CHORUS: Another futile conversation… vicious circle, the same old fruitless observations... vicious circle, again a silly consultation...vicious circle... but you've gotta' be free to break out but you've gotta' break out to be free… hell, it's beyond me! ROCK ELEMENTAL Three o'clock in the morning... it's been a dog of a day. He's been shining...with the Titan girl... the girl in purple from the Rollright circle who's been dashing from the beaches in a haze. She's got cool understanding of the ways of the tribe and their rock elemental ways...and the man in the jacket with the crooked deck of cards, who thinks he's a joker and he thinks he's hard...I tell you the warriors e’ll run him down...we'll kick him out of town! Now its thirteen o'clock, they got nerve...what a curve! They've been messing around...with the Prince of blades... the man in the mask from a century past, who's been riding on a horse with a wing...he knows he's a shadow, but he knows he's hot!...He’s the ROCK ELEMENTAL king! And the man in the wig with the big fat book...who thinks he's a cracker but really he’s a crook...I tell you the warriors e’ll run him down...we'll kick him out of town!...What a clown!... and the man in the alley with the jolly Roger flag...who's father is a preacher and his girlfriend is a slag...I tell you the warriors e'll run him down ...well kick him out of town! Leave her alone...back on the phone...nowhere at all...pride before fall. Methane and wind...beginning of end…”get out of my life!" trouble and strife. Locked in the ice...don t try to be nice...shut in a cell...not very well...take me away...take me away! Lyrics by Jayl De Lara © All Rights Reserved

about

Jayl's debut album, entitled "The World & the Hooded Man" was released in late 1997 on the Invicta Label to much critical acclaim.
This groundbreaking work, sponsored by The Princes Trust and endorsed by HRH The Prince of Wales himself, has sold well and is still selling throughout the world, after a blaze of publicity including amazing live appearances, TV Coverage and extensive radio airplay. Moreover, the CD breaks new ground in it's refusal to be cast into any one genre. It could be argued as being the forerunner to Jayl's own PURISM genre. The work is oozing with innovation and ranges across a wide spectrum of themes and styles. It's great versatility and passion has appealed to all kinds of people from varying backgrounds, ages and musical tastes.
There are composition and performance contributions from some of the finest UK writers and musicians, many of them from Gloucestershire; where the album was recorded at Phantom Power Studios. The artists involved include Andy Gilliams (writer of "Alabama Green Juice Jar"), Gerry White, Steve Jones, Tim Buckmaster, Googe (aka Christian Cheape), Steve Trigg, Andy Wood (aka AC Wood), Redvers Bailey (aka Dan Bailey), Sarah & Laurie Cheape and Marcus McIrnerney. The work was produced in a collaboration between Jayl himself and by Steve I Ras (aka Steve Hall) - producer of the early work of 90's sensations EMF.
The cover "The Marsh Phantom" is the work of the acclaimed Kentish artist Terry Anthony. This cover, the lyrics and the music capture Jayl's fascination with the legends and the myths of Olde England, especially the Romney Marsh in Kent and the famous character of Doctor Syn, made famous by the books of Russell Thorndike. Indeed, Jayl is originally from this part of the world and is known in the area as Man 'O' the Marsh. As well as these historical themes, the album contains a unique and eclectic blend of romance, astrolgy, mysticism, aggression and modern concepts unparalled on any other 90's recording.
